Cingular Gaining Momentum vs Competitors

Cingular’s vicious cycle of AT&T Wireless integration is on the wain. And the company’s 2nd quarter results showed signs of it being replaced by a virtuous circle of a newly upgraded and integrated network supporting:
*declines in churn, down to 1.7% overall, 1.5% postpaid
*stability in the subscriber base with net adds back to where they were when AT&T was merged in
*and the inflection point for sharper jumps in data revenues with practically all traffic on the GSM net and HSDPA overlay in progress.

With Verizon already pumping on all cylinders and snapping at Cingular’s heels for the title of largest U.S. operator and Sprint still struggling with its Nextel integration, the timing for Cingular’s turnaround is pivotal.

The sudden departure of Sprint Nextel's coo Len Lauer, announced today, highlights the disarray at Sprint and underlines the window of opportunity for Cingular.
