The joke's on me: "Snakes" pretty much tanked its opening weekend. It's not even going to be the biggest R-rated opener of the year. Heck, it's not even the biggest R-rated horror movie opener. It might be the cheapest.

So far this year, Hostel, Miami Vice, V for Vendetta, Underworld II, Inside Man and Silent Hill all opened bigger than Snakes. New Line's usually well-oiled on/off-line hype machine comes up small.

That's what I get for not going myself.
