I wrote a report a couple of months ago on where RSS can be used as a marketing tool. My premise then – as now – is that this technology can be drive incremental sales when used strategically and appropriately, ideally in an environment where prices are competitive and change quickly.

Travelocity has now developed a customized RSS feed to notify subscribers via their RSS news reader when Travelocity finds lower fares to favorite destinations.

These highly targeted messages are a great example of how RSS can be leveraged in an experiment that could create customer loyalty and drive incremental sales.

(The other side of that coin is that it could also train travelers to wait it out for lower prices rather than book right away, so we'll have to see how this unfolds)

But if you have a destination that you regularly keep an eye on for fares, check it out: http://rss.travelocity.com/index.php
