Please stand by while Mr. Trump searches

Donald Trump has entered on the online retail travel space with his new site “GoTrump.com”.

They have positioned the “art of the deal” as a central proposition in the site, along with a special section on Trump Picks The Best Hotels. My favorite part of the latter is the message you get while the engine searches hotels: “Please stand by while Mr. Trump searches for your amazing deals.”

I gave the site a try, and was searched NY to San Francisco and the first display it offered me was the “lowest price package option” with two economy tickets and a 2 diamond hotel.

I expected the site would entrepreneurially grow a luxury travel niche. The positioning of the "art of the deal" is a tenuous stretch of the Trump name into online travel - particularly one that defaults to the more price sensitive traveler. Perhaps this will be tweaked in time to something more consistent with the Trump brand.

In the meantime, I look forward to seeing Mr. Trump and Melania at the Howard Johnson’s in South San Francisco.
