New FiOS Ad Featuring KG<< 911 Service Is Not Infallible, Regardless Of The Carrier | Main | New BSP Mantra: Retention, Retention, Retention >> Doug Williams | May 22, 2008, 02:04 PM Just checked out Verizon’s new FiOS commercial featuring Kevin Garnett of the 2008 NBA Champion Boston Celtics (yes, I’m an optimist). The spot is set to debut on TV today but you can get an early peek here (registration required). The spot highlights Verizon’s Home Media DVR, while poking fun at the excesses that make watching an episode or two of MTV Cribs a reasonable way to waste 30 minutes, what with KG’s enormous plasma screens in every room in the house. My personal favorite was the one mounted on the end of the grand piano – love the absurdity of that. This spot is as entertaining as the Michael Bay “awesome” ad (extended cut!), and much better than the “wow” ad, which featured a series of family members, their pets, and an unnamed parasite on the cat all mesmerizingly saying “wow” upon seeing the clarity of the picture on their KG-sized TV. The “wow” and KG ads suffered from the same ending though, which for some reason feature a scene from “Rocky Balboa” where Rocky strikes his opponent so hard, a shower of sweat, spit and the guy’s mouth guard come flying at you in 3-D. Ick. Was that really necessary? Is that supposed to be appealing? |
