Discovery has an article about the only known copy of the first telephone book ever published going on the auction block.

Instructions within the book inform users to commence a conversation by saying “Hulloa.”

Also included is the first fair use plan, circa 1878: Users are instructed to limit calls to three minutes, no more than twice per hour, without first gaining permission from the main office.

Ah, monopolies.
