Slate Sliding Interstitial

Head over to Slate.com and see if you get the sliding interstitial for BizBox, a Slate-produced, AmEx-sponsored business section. Rather than simply cover the whole homepage straightaway, it slides down from the top and covers the content for a few seconds, then slides back up.

Like most consumers, I'm no fan of interstitials. And this is nothing new, really -- it's reminiscent of "pull-back" ads that I've seen for years now. But how much nicer is the Slate execution than, say, the ones that New York Times runs? I always skip the NYT interstitials -- but I've seen these a few times on Slate now and I haven't skipped one yet. It's amazing how good execution can make intrusive ads more acceptible.

(It's a nice integrated sponsorship for AmEx too, by the way.)
