Change at Yahoo<< Can 4music Compete? [Updated] | Main | Speaking in Cannes Today >> Nate Elliott | June 19, 2007, 04:20 AM Card knows portals (and portals' politics) best, so check his blog for slightly deeper thinking on this. But on a shallower level, I find it odd that Semel's leaving while Panama is getting pretty good reviews in the US and just launching elsewhere. (And for what it's worth, I was fairly impressed with it as well.) Search monetization is Yahoo's biggest problem, and they seem on track to fix it. And while Card's right that Yahoo haven't cracked social marketing and media, no one else has either -- and Yahoo's at least got as good a story on social marketing as anyone else I've seen. So of course there are still problems there -- but Semel may be leaving Yahoo in better shape than most people seem to think. |
