Yesterday's post appears to have created some discussion.

To be clear, I still think the iPhone is an astonishing v1.0, but like most version ones the iPhone has flaws and quirks.

Here's a reply to one email:

"I agree the keyboard is OK'ish. What I was trying to say in the first para -- but which may not have come across due to typos -- is that the keyboard is better than a number pad if the user has two hands free.

re: localisation:

I have that setting switched "on". I checked. Also, just to absolutely double check, I tried the same words in an iPhone in the Apple shop this morning, and found the same behaviour.

The auto-correct changes 's' to 'z' in words like "realising". It appears Apple has kludged "colour" and "behaviour": what happens is that the auto-correct pop-up suggests those words without the 'u' but does not actually auto-replace them.

Of course, 'z' and 's' spellings are both legal in English English, but 's' is the conventional spelling used in modern English so Apple remains at fault."
