Goodbye, Comdex, - Hello, Computer Digital Expo<< Danger gets 35 million | Main | The Pirates of the Caribbean >> Michael Gartenberg | February 04, 2003, 10:02 AM Some of you had written to ask why we cancelled our upcoming Digital Ubiquity Forum. Well, today our parent company, Jupitermedia, announced that we're doing something in this space on a slightly larger scale. On November 17-21 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas we will be running fall Computer Digital Expo. Read the announcement here and visit the website at www.computerdigitalexpo.com. If those dates sound a bit familiar, they should, as they coincide with the dates of what used to be Comdex. I say “used to be” because Comdex simply isn’t what it once was. Those of you who were there last year know what I mean. So why are we doing this? It’s time for something new. In the words of our CEO, Alan Meckler “The computer and IT industries require a dynamic exhibition and conference that covers the expansion of technology from computers to the numerous digital devices that are driving today's information technologies.” Think; Devices-Networks-Services and all of the interesting stuff that you can do with them. Our industry has been stunted somewhat by a lack of new and compelling applications. It’s not that they aren’t there; it’s just that they haven’t been exposed to the masses or given a place to be showcased. Computer Digital Expo will change that. So many new ideas that are out there, so many people doing really innovative stuff, this show will let them be heard. We’re putting together the agenda now. We want to do this right. Got an idea for something or someone you want to see, drop me a note and I'll get it to the right folks. I want some veterans to come back to Vegas. Perhaps Dave Winer will come and do a live Weblog session or Marc Canter will throw an old time party. I also want a lot of new voices as well, lots of ideas, lots of shared knowledge. There are a lot of you that never bothered with Comdex and we want you involved. Let's start the dialogue and get the energy flowing. |
