Wired interviews Bill Joy. Thirty years ago a supercomputer was 80 megahertz.  Now a personal computer is 2 gigahertz, and yet the software isn't 25 times  better.

Amen to that :). I can do a lot more with my PC today than I could  just a few years ago, but the core fundamentals haven't changed for the better. We're not only making the same mistakes over again with this stuff but we manage  to throw a few new ones in at the same time.
