Jared Blank, (who still runs a great travel weblog) gets it right about the NY times story on JetBlue. There's no cachet to that airline at all but it is cheap. Nothing more. There's on logic in paying $2,500 to fly to the West Coast IN COACH when you can pay $300. No magic, no mystique. The one good thing about JetBlue is that they put pressure on other folks to cut fares. Continental now regularly has fares to the West Coast for $300-400 that didn't exist a year ago. I travel for a living and business travel is not something fun to do. No now, not ever!

The NY Times has an incredibly inane articleabout how wealthy people are choosing to fly JetBlue. Any article that quotes so-called "trend watcher" and master of the obvious Faith Popcorn loses all credibility. She is quoted saying, "Flying JetBlue isn't just about taking a trip, it has actually become something fun to do." No it hasn't. It's about going someplace. Just because your doctor's office has cable TV in the waiting room doesn't mean that getting a colon screening has actually become something fun to do. I hate her.
