MP3 player market penetration<< IDG to launch iPodworld Magazine... | Main | Portable Media Center >> Michael Gartenberg | July 08, 2004, 06:29 AM The NY Post picked up the story of the new iPod magazine. It's still a silly idea but it does show how the iPod has become more than just a music player and turned into a cultural icon. The author also cites Jupiter as a source for the iPod penetrating 5% of US online households. That's incorrect. The 5% number refers to all MP3 players, both flash based and hard drive based, not just the iPod. This market is still in the early stages and it's hardly game over... There's ways to compete here and gain share or to put it in different way, the fat lady has not begun her song (and what format would that song be in and can you get it from the iTunes music store?) |
