Michael Robertson is back in the music business it seems. Alas, as Tom Wolfe said, "you can't go home again." and this isn't 1998. My colleague David Card nailed this one dead on. "Anybody that tries to distribute unprotected copies of music is not going to have access to the big hits," This is a nice idea but has no chance of success of getting the major labels on board or the big artists for that matter. In fact, it makes about as much sense as going after Microsoft at the desktop with a paid version of Linux. On the other hand, Robertson did manage to get $20m out of Redmond over the whole Lindows fiasco, so who knows... :)
