Richard MacManus has posted the first of three parts about our report, "RSS Readers: Addressing Market Opportunities with an Innovative News Medium". Richard focuses a lot on our definition of RSS. Richard was a little perturbed (his word) with the following "While RSS once was relegated to the collection and aggregation of weblogs, today’s RSS feeds commonly include feeds from mainstream content providers." and thinks were being dismissive of blogs. Nothing could be further than the truth and I think our commitment to the serious nature of weblogs in business is pretty well documented. No one blogging in their pajamas here at the office :) We do note the RSS phenomenon came directly as a result of the weblog phenomena but it's gone beyond that. The NY Times aggregates via RSS but I'd hardly call them a weblog. Richard is correct that we're writing to a business audience and we therefore frame the discussion for them in a context they can relate to. That's one of the reasons why exposing our ideas to a wider audience is a good thing as it allows other people to take what we've done and riff on it in a totally different way. I'm looking forward to parts two and three.
