Paying for podcasts... with ads no less

OK, let me see if I understand this. I pay Sirius $12.95 a month so I can listen to podcasts with commercials that I could listen to for free, without commercials on my media player of choice. Of course I would also get to select the programming myself and not Adam Curry. Can someone please explain this to me?

Perhaps we'll soon see a paid service, where I can subscribe to weblogs, that someone else chooses with lots of ads thrown in.

NY Times: "Adam Curry will produce and be host of a four-hour program every weekday starting May 13 on Sirius Satellite Radio."
