Other names menstioned are Google and Yahoo. What an irony if it went to MSFT. MSN was started ten years ago as a proprietary closed service to battle that other closed service AOL (walled online services were the rage at the time. My old emplyer Gartner thought closed services were going to be huge so they started one on the old ATT Interchange service called @vantage) Of course, it turned out that whole Internet thing was where the real story was :) Susan Mernit (who is a former AOLer) tells Google.
