Yahoo tries to connect the PC to the TV

Looks like Yahoo is going to give it a go. I'm not sure I understand the strategy here. Seems it would make more sense for them to work with MSFT and get this into Media Center. Going it alone is going to be really hard for them. I'm also not certain about the whole services on the TV either. We know from our research (and all the failed attempts over the years) that consumers are not interested in e-mail or IM or web browsing on their TV. I don't see why that changes with Yahoo's offering. Enabling photo viewing makes sense and video is of course a better story on the TV but will the content be compelling enough? No doubt, there's a sea change going on in 06 and the battle is on for the living room. Of course, it will no doubt get even more interesting next week when we hear what the folks at Apple have to say.
