On Platform Shifts<< Yahoo introduces Yahoo Go for TV. The question is why? | Main | Nintendo Revolution is now Wii. >> Michael Gartenberg | April 27, 2006, 12:14 PM I've been doing some spring cleaning here and came across a few fun things. An old shrinkwrapped copy of of BOB, a copy of the first version of Encarta (priced then at $399) and a copy of Lotus SmartSuite written in Java. I also came across this fun item. In 1992 the folks at Soft.Letter had this to say about the platform shift to Windows. "We suspect that when the dust settles, Lotus will dominate windows spreadsheets, WordPerfect still will be top dog in word processing, and Borland will prevail in databases. In fact, it's hard to find a major category where Windows seems likely to create a radical realignment of the marketplace." Wow, talk about getting it wrong. Update - found the full text here... Love this whole Internet thing sometimes (which reminds me of another comment from a former colleague who called the Internet, the CB Radio of the 90's, but that's another story) |
