Rocketbust?<< HD-DVD vs. BlueRay - The winner is.... perhaps neither | Main | Moviebeam-less >> Michael Gartenberg | July 06, 2006, 07:16 AM It's of course a story only bloggers could love, since only bloggers have probably ever heard of Amanda Congdon much less Andrew Baron. No need to go into the details, it's already been hashed out on Digg. A few interesting points. It seems Baron found Congdon on cragilist. Seems fitting. More interesting was the widely reported figure that rocketboom was bringing in $85,000 a week (popularized by a posting from Robert Scoble, showing the value of rumor) seems like it was way, way off the mark. Perhaps it's not time for most folks to quit the day job just yet. It's possible to build a small audience, like Amanda and Andrew did. Much harder to make it a real business. Winner? Likely Amanda with her pouty farewell will have job offers rolling in. Loser? Andrew. While most folks never heard of rocketboom, those that did clearly identified with Amanda, even if she only owned 49%. Postscript – Jason Calcanis (of course) offers to hire Amanda. Robert Scoble tries to hire Jason Calcanis. |
