A little more on mobile user experiences<< River of News Mobile is little thing that's pretty big | Main | Showtime in Cupertino next week >> Michael Gartenberg | September 01, 2006, 12:29 PM While we're chatting about Mobile experiences Om Malik has an interesting poll going on about what device has the best UI. Of course that's a tricky question. UI for what? Making phone calls? Reading email? Writing email? Reading news? Reading books? This whole thing is a very personalized experience and I expect the results of the poll to be all over the place. What is interesting is when meta concepts like the River of News appear. What's interesting is that over the last week, I've used the NY Times River on a wide variety of devices (including a few that won't be on the market for some time) and the experience was very uniform across the board. It let me get at the information I wanted in a very inuitable manner, didn't need me to install anything on any deivce and let me drill down into more detail when I wanted to. Wish every site had a mobile version that followed these guidelines. Wonder if Dave is going to quantify some of his work so that publishers can quickly follow suit and do their own stuff now that someone has shown them a good model to follow. |
