New iMacs and Minis, why this week?

Nice referesh of the iMac and Mini lines today (the 24" iMac is especially sweet) but that isn't what has me thinking. It was the timing. After all, why not do this next week when they have everyone together. My guess is that today's news is important and they want to make sure that it didn't get lost in next week's news cycle. Which would seem to me that they think next week's news is going to be big... really big.

Bonus mini-Apple Rumor - No, not about the hardware or the service but who Apple might bring out on stage next week. If my source is correct, it's going to be fun (sorry, was asked not even to repeat the rumor)

Update - I've been told the rumor is probably wrong which isn't to say they won't have someone cool onstage, but like most rumors, this one might not have been accurate.
