Steven Levy's "The Perfect Thing"<< T-Mobile Dash Can Take Smartphones to the Masses - First Take | Main | Price is certainly an issue in next gen purchases >> Michael Gartenberg | October 12, 2006, 10:40 AM One of the fun parts of this job has been covering the Apple and iPod story. I've thought for a while that it's a shame that there's no definitive work on the iPod. Now there is. I've been reading "The Perfect Thing: How the iPod Shuffles Commerce, Culture, and Coolness" by Steven Levy and it's highly recommended to anyone that wants to understand the iPod phenomenon. Steven's been covering this story from day one as well and there are some great stories in the book, such as the time Steven showed the iPod to Bill Gates after it first came out (it was Bill's first iPod experience). Fun part of the book, in a tribute to shuffle, there are actually four versions, each with a different chapter order. Overall, a great read and excellent insight into the background of the product and the people involved in creating it. |
