David Card lays it out but I'm less sanguine. Bottom line, there are plenty of phones out there that already support subscription music services that run Windows Mobile and no one pays any attention to that feature. Partially that's because Microsoft still thinks of Windows Mobile as Enterprise technology, not consumer technology. I agree with David this can work since it's tied to a whole new set of phones but at the end of the day, unless someone really takes the time to evangelize the market and explain the benefits of a subscription service to consumers, this isn't going any where. The other big issue is that all this technology is tied to Plays For Sure technology and the future of that stuff isn't clear. One bright spot is that it's not tied any part of the other eco system and actually offers the services folks a bit of an end to end solution to compete with the likes of Zune.
