Is Windows Mobile Security Good Enough?<< Crunch Time | Main | XBox Live to Offer Movie Rentals and TV Purchases - First Take >> Michael Gartenberg | November 06, 2006, 08:09 PM It seems there's been a bit a of a controversy about how good Windows Mobile Security is. It's been pointed out that the way wireless activesync works, there's going to be un-encrypted data on the device. Granted, it's a legitimate issue but not a serious one at all. While there are other devices that have the option to encrypt the entire device when a password is used, in practice, it's far too slow to be usable on a regular basis. Bottom line? There are lots of laptops out there using only the easily bypassed XP longin to protect them, that'a bigger issue as far as i'm concerned. What it really comes down to is an educating users about the dangers of securing mobile data and when appropriate, augment with third party solutions. The best integrated security won't do anything without proper policies and education and that's the bigger issue here IMHO. |
