Time to Move On<< Windows Vista speech recognition | Main | Lessons of Zune >> Michael Gartenberg | December 07, 2006, 06:17 PM It’s been about five years and it’s time for a new challenge so it’s time to move on. Yes, I am leaving Windows XP behind and moving over to Windows Vista full time. I’m fully committing to the OS from now on. I’ve spent the last few evenings getting a working install on Vista (Ultimate SKU) and Office 2007 on an X60 Tablet (if you want to do the same, just ping me and I can walk you through the process). Some of the ThinkPad features aren’t yet supported under Vista (I expect drivers at any time) but there’s more than enough functionality to be up and running. No problem running Aero glass and Tablet support is excellent, handwriting recognition is the best I have seen to date). I love search everywhere (and changing search from Live to Google was simple). Most of my core XP applications worked fine, still looking for a Virtual CD utility that works under Vista. One odd bug is that IE 7 won’t let me send email in the Outlook web client, the text field is just grayed out. I’m still keeping at least one production system running with XP just in case. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be documenting the transition, feel free to ping me with any questions in the meantime. (this whole post was written using Vista speech recognition with a pen to navigate and correct... no keyboard was involved) |
