Dvorak - pull the plug on iPhone<< Apple lets you complete your album on iTunes | Main | Happy 10th Anniversary to Scripting News >> Michael Gartenberg | March 29, 2007, 09:40 AM The good folks at Engadget point me to a marketwatch column where John Dvorak calls for Apple to pull the plug on the iPhone. "It's the loyalists who keep promoting this device as if it is going to be anything other than another phone in a crowded market. And it's exactly the crowded-market aspect of this that analysts seem to be ignoring." Comments about Dvorak's love to say outrageous things to get Apple fans annoyed aside, there are arguments to make about the iPhone but this isn't one of them (and it's interesting that it echoes the comments Ed Colligan at Palm made about Apple's entry). The crowded market argument just doesn't hold water, there's too many examples to refute this. The more important aspect is how much interest there is in this device and what the potential impact will be. We have some definite thoughts on how this will play out based on our research, if you're a client and want to talk about the iPhone impact, let us know at inquiry at jupiterresearch dot com. |
