Meet George - The New King of iPod Speaker Docks<< Some Thoughts on Vista | Main | Birth of the iPhone >> Michael Gartenberg | March 16, 2007, 10:01 AM One of the more compelling reasons to buy and iPod is the fact that the iPod has morphed into a platform. There's a wealth of car kits, cases and other accessories that have created a super powerful positive feedback loop. One of the more popular categories are speaker docks that let you listen to you iPod at home. A few years ago, at the recommendation of David Card, I bought a Bose sound dock which I've loved but recently I've been using a much better alternative from the folks at Chestnut Hill Sound called George. George excels over other products in a number of different ways. First, it sounds great. Music fills the room well with excellent bass and sound that doesn't distort. You can also plug in other devices via and AUX input and there's a wonderful "seamless" AM/FM radio that lets you mix different stations and group them by genre for example not band. The big wow for George is the remote control. It's way cool, the entire front of the unit pops off and becomes the remote. Since the folks who designed George worked closely with Apple, everything you see on your iPod is available on the remote LCD display. It's wonderful and it works. You can even keep the remote plugged in across the room on nightstand and use it as an alarm clock and then trigger the dock to play what you want when it's time to get up. George is not cheap at around $600 but this is the new standard to beat in iPod docks. If you have an iPod and are looking for the best dock you can get (today that is). This is the one to take a real close look at. And it's one more reason to get an iPod. |
