Palm Hires ex-Apple Engineer to Fight the iPhone

Palm has hired Paul Mercer to fight the iPhone. This isn't the first time a company has hired Mercer to help compete with Apple. Samsung hired him a while back to create and iPod killer. It didn't work out too well. Palm has done some amazing things in the Smartphone space. The original Treo was a groundbreaking product in 2001. The 650 was an amazing device when it came to market. Lately though, newer devices like the T-Mobile Dash, Samsung Blackjack, Moto Q and Blackberry Pearl have all eclipsed the Treo in terms of form factor. The iPhone further illustrates how far behind Palm is in terms of design and form factor. Not sure what Mercer will do here but Palm really needs an overhaul in their product look and feel to be competitive going forward in the market.
