Fun Macbook trick<< Quote of the Day | Main | David Card answers some of my questions... or did he? >> Michael Gartenberg | May 02, 2007, 06:35 PM As I mentioned before, connectivity here at the Westin is less than ideal (although the beds are excellent) so my colleague Kieran Barr let me try out his Novatel USB EV-DO modem, which is ideal since the Macbook I'm carrying this week lacks an express or PC card (come on Apple, how about some integrated 3G?). Kieran didn't think it would work since I didn't have Verizon drivers available but I plugged it in anyway. Lo and behold, OS X already knew about the modem, configured the drivers and the ports automatically. There's now a new item in the menu bar and just clicking connect, well connected. Since I'm in a Rev A area, speeds are super fast (we were watching Jim Cramer over the new Slingbox Mac client while we drove back to the hotel). I know from experience getting this stuff to work can be a nightmare, this is exactly the way setup should go. Kudos to Verizon and Apple |
