"Being in the public eye is NOT easy, NOT for the timid, and NOT for those who don't have a good read on the corporate membrane." Robert Scoble commeting on the person who went on the Scoble Show and got fired for it.

I've talked about in the past how you want to ask permission and not forgiveness before you blog. Same rule for doing stuff like this. This isn't a new a phenomena. Years ago, when I worked for Philip Morris, one of the IT folks was fired for talking to MacWeek. (it was an odd story, the CEO at the time happened to come across a MacWeek on a plane and noticed Philip Morris being mentioned).

In addition to learning how to speak with media (and these days, everyone is media. It's totally common for me to meet with folks for coffee or a meal and the first question everyone asks, is what are the rules and are we "on the record" or off?)
