Just got off the plane to the news. Smart move, but not something they needed to do IMHO. Let's face it. Technology isn't something you buy as an investment for the future, you buy it because it does something you need and want today. We all know if you wait, it will get faster, cheaper, smaller (or bigger) over time. Folks who bought the iPhone early on got something for it, they got to be the first iPhone owners.

Now I do think something different was going on here. The folks who normally buy on day one, folks like me, know what we're getting into. We know they'll be bugs. We know it's cost less next week. We don't care. In all the excitement of the launch, I think a lot of folks got caught up in the excitement who really aren't part of the usual early adopter demographic. Therefore, when Apple announced the price cut they were no doubt taken aback. That said, it's nice to see Apple did the right thing here, focused on keeping the customer happy and not worrying about how Wall St are anyone else might take the move.
