Casual gaming? No, it's about mainstream gaming<< First Leopard Review | Main | On Microsoft and Facebook >> Michael Gartenberg | October 25, 2007, 10:24 AM There's been a lot of discussion about how well the Wii has done as a casual gaming platform. In light of Nintendo's ongoing success, it's important to understand that it's not about casual gaming at all. While there is an aspect of that, the real issue has been Nintendo has actually brought games to the masses and that this is about mainstream gaming, not casual gaming. Have you seen folks play Wii? Sessions are often very long (the Wii reminds you to take a break from time to time) and very intense. In short, there's nothing casual about them at all. What Nintendo has done is bring video games back to the mass market and grown an audience that likes to play games but may not care all that much about blowing things up. |
