HTC Touch Diamond - Ten Quick Thoughts<< iPhone 3G and .me - Some final thoughts on the news | Main | Betamax, XFL and Zune? Oh What if. >> Michael Gartenberg | June 11, 2008, 08:29 AM I've spent a little more time with the device, here's a few more thoughts. 1. The screen continues to blow me away every time I turn it on. You really need to see this to appreciate it. 2. The VGA resolution along with the TouchFlo 3D UI is really pushing the limits of the processor. Every so often, the unit lags a half second or so behind me. It's not horrible but it is annoying. 3. It's possible for most users to use this device without every seeing Windows Mobile underneath. TouchFlo UI is lovely to look at and work with and changes the whole Windows Mobile experience into something that looks like it was built in this century. Microsoft, please note what HTC is doing here. 4. Following a gadget trend, this device is extremely caress-able but it also will show every fingerprint and smudge. Matte finishes anyone? 5. When plugged in, the device offers the option to show up as an external disk. Makes super fast transfers that are drag and drop possible. Also charges off of USB making it a snap to take on the road. Too soon to see how well the battery life is and whether i can make it through a full day of usage. 6. It's not upgradeable, it's 4gb internal storage and that's it. If you need a more expandable device, you need to look at the new TouchPro (which is more of a power user device). 7. Opera mobile is wicked cool and light years ahead of Pocket IE. It's nice that it's the default browser. It doesn't quite match the performance of Safari on the iPhone though. 8. YouTube viewing app is cool and works well. 9. Nice 2nd camera on front makes for video chat realities when the 3G US version gets here. 10. Did I mention that screen... WOW. |
