The Wall Street Journal has a piece on a new mobile TV technology to be introduced by Samsung.

Well, long live A-VSB (Advanced-Vestigial Side-Band) and welcome in this fragmented world.

I don’t have much to add to my previous post.

Regarding the US market, my colleagues Julie and Joe both posted commments on MediaFlo's announcement. I agree that there is a need to have an immediate access to the right content you want to watch. This is precisely why dedicated looped channels are introduced so that the content is regularly updated or why EPG and easy channel switching are of prior importance...

I tend to believe live TV is essentially a way to sell the video concept. It is easier to sell a well-known TV channel to consumers than an on-demand programm on a cell phone. The industry is too much focused on live TV and broadcasting technologies whereas in the long run mobile video may deliver more significant opportunities. Ever heard of Actimagine? Have a look at their website. This is a very innovative company, a player to watch if you are interested in the future of mobile video. Thanks to Mobiclip, their optimized video codec, you can store a movie in a 256MB memory card and watch it at 30 frames per second with limited power consumption. The quality is amazing for a tiny screen.
