Public Wi-Fi provider Boingo recently announced the introduction of a worldwide flat rate plan for business travelers.
Corporate Wi-Fi aggregator iPass offers such a plan as well. Providers strive to expand their worldwide networks and simplify life for business travelers, who would otherwise have to deal with expensive roaming and usage fees.

Flat rate plans are a good idea in the US as well - considering competition from ubiquitous 3G offers. Public Wi-Fi providers are in a good position. The majority of business travelers do not need frequent access to the corporate network. About half of frequent business travelers check e-mail several times a day and often use hotels. Wi-Fi is the most popular means of accessing email while on the road. Seventy-three percent of frequent business travelers used Wi-Fi with their laptops to check e-mail and connect to the corporate network in 2006. Use of free hotspots however is common as well.
