Save Holmdel!

As a huge fan of the history of telecoms, I was sad to read one of the longest, most thorough, and best researched pieces I've seen on Engadget, discussing the imminent demise of the old Bell Labs laboratory in Holmdel, NJ, where, among other things, the cellphone was invented and the Big Bang was theorized.

I'm tempted to argue that the demise of Holmdel (in favor of a modern office park...sigh) is symbolic of the general state of R&D and original technology research in the US today. But instead I think I'll just say I agree it'd be a shame to lose the facility; while it's no Penn Station, in its way it is a place people will regret losing once it's gone.
