Verizon's numbers came out yesterday, and excitingly they've broken out FiOS, telling us just about everything we want to know...well...acquisition costs and churn (for DSL generally as well as FiOS) would be mighty nice, too...

VZ added 440K net new BB connections, so about 7% growth for the quarter, which compares with 6.5% for BellSouth and 4.6% for AT&T. Of the 440K, 111K were FiOS. 1/4 new broadband subs on FiOS is pretty impressive.

In total FiOS has 375K broadband subscribers, out of 4.5m premises passed.

And finally, on the TV side, FiOS passed 1.5m potential TV HHs, and has franchises covering 3m. Although VZ didn't give a FiOS TV number, they kind of did. Where FiOS TV is available for 6 mos, average penetration was 10%. If all 1.5m HHs have been active for 6 months, that would be 150K subs...If you assume that maybe 2/3 have been available for 6 months (more reasonable), that's a little more than 100K TV subs. Of whom VZ says 80% go for the triple play.

While the build-out is expensive, at least VZ is seeing some fruits to its labors. It'll be very interesting to see how much the early demand proves sustainable over time...does everyone who is possibly interested in FiOS or FiOS TV get it in the first six months, or does the demand curve extend out further and more smoothly?
