Final Fantasy=Big Box Office<< The Family Guy Versus the FCC | Main | MSN Access Moves >> Joseph Laszlo | March 27, 2006, 04:07 PM Kotaku points out that Final Fantasy XII, the latest in the phenomenal (and phenomenally popular) role playing game franchise, has sold 1.764 MILLION copies since it came out, in Japan only, for the PS2 only, on 16 March. Assuming about $54/copy, that works out to $95million. I've been looking around for something to compare that to, and haven't found anything great. How about this: this past weekend, the top 10 movies in the US cumulatively also made about $95million [Radio Free Box Office]. I tend to agree that movies and games aren't perfectly comparable. But still, wow, that's a lot of money. |
