Accessibility and Dunkin' Donuts?

Recently, I have seen some great examples of ‘accessible technology’ and the more broad application ‘universal design’ rising in importance – a couple of examples that I will point to…

·	Apple’s Leopard release and ‘Universal Access’ highlighted as one of the notable 10 enhancements
·	‘Windows Vista Speech recognition’ (See Michael's blog entry)
·	‘Google Local Voice Search' (See Michael's blog entry)

‘Hands-free’ came up last night while talking to an insightful friend (who doesn’t cover technology.) He brought up the relevance and value of ‘voice-to-text’ messaging to him and ultimately the masses….(my mind is reminded of Peter Lynch and his 'invest in what you know philosophy'…could voice to text be the next ‘dunkin' donuts’...?)

…this excites me as I go back to thinking about the opportunity and relevance of ‘universal design.’ New efforts and the early work done by those focused on delivering solutions to those with mild and severe disabilities is being realized by a larger market – aging boomers who are finding it tougher working on small screens/ keyboards, as well as busy moms and professionals who are ‘texting’ while driving...(you know who you are…)
