It looks like the UK is on the verge of having it's first ever number one single that is available only as a digital download, with Gnarl Barkley's 'Crazy'.

The rules have changed so that a physical sales are now longer needed to qualify for the charts (which the Gorrilaz once got around by releasing a VERY limited edition vinyl edition.)

If Crazy does make it to number one then it will be the first but it certainly won't be the last.
