Even as WebTrends spins off from NetIQ, Urchin gets sucked into Google. (Announced today; not yet on their site.)

"We want to provide web site owners and marketers with the information they need to optimize their users' experience and generate a higher return-on-investment from their advertising spending," said Jonathan Rosenberg, vice president of product management, Google. "This technology will be a valuable addition to Google's suite of advertising and publishing products."

We've made the case that the healthy rise in per-click pricing is driven by improvements in targeting and measurement technologies that enable marketers to intelligently maximize the return on their search investment in a competitive market.

Google aims to support this phenomenon by putting measurement tools in the hands of marketers with the aim of making it easier to justify search spending.
