The latest fine example of using mobile messaging for timely information alerts comes from the agricultural sector of the Netherlands.

Boerderij, a Dutch weekly farming magazine, and Dutch mobile service provider Emexus have jointly introduced three SMS alert services for farmers to inform them on a daily basis about the current selling price of pigs, including international pig quotations. Alternatively, farmers can subscribe to a service offering quotes for milk prices or those of potatoes and onions!!

Once the markets' price is established for the day, the farmers receive the data on their mobile phone, whether they are in their field or in the stables, at home or on the road.

Marketers in any industry sector with time-sensitive product, service or price information could and should be considering this as a great way to build loyalty amongst their customer base.
