Dellf Delivers<< The Fish Sings | Main | Catch That Kid >> Joe Wilcox | December 01, 2004, 02:57 PM Dell is wasting no time loading up the holiday offers, with frightening prices. Today's big deal is an Inspiron 1000 notebook for $598; Dell throws in an inkjet printer and 802.11g Wi-Fi card for free. My mind boggles at the idea of a nearly sub-$500 notebook. JupiterResearch's most recent U.S. household survey had notebook sales basically flat. I'll be interested to see the fresh data coming in a few weeks, particularly in context of falling notebook prices. Then there is the Wi-Fi consideration. Assuming consumers increase notebook buying, there should be a correlating impact on wireless home networking. By the way, colleague Julie Ask's report, "Home Wireless Network Forecast," is an excellent primer for vendors looking to understand U.S. household Wi-Fi adoption. |
