In a column over at The Fool.com, Alyce Lomax offers epitaph for WHFS, the longstanding alternative radio station here in the Washington, D.C. According to Alyce, owner Viacom pulled the plug on WHFS and turned it into a Spanish-language radio station. Looks that way.

I started listening to WHFS back in the mid 1980s, when the station had more edge and a harder alternative playlist. I admit that WHFS lost some of its appeal in the last few years and had fallen way down in popularity in the D.C. market. Strange, considering the popularity of pop punk artists right now.

Change happens, whether because of troubles at the station or the impact of new forces like iTunes, promise of subscription downloads or satellite radio. Sigh.

Now, please excuse me while I go scrape the WHFS bumper sticker off my car and install an iPod adapter to replace the radio.
