Dave Barry on the Great "24" Absurdity<< Apple's Inspirational Marketing | Main | The Mother of all Glitches? >> Joe Wilcox | January 18, 2005, 01:05 PM Humorist Dave Barry astutely comments on the great absurdity of fast-moving Fox show "24." It's not the ridiculous, fast-changing plot twists, the hyperventilating commercial breaks as the clock tick tocks down or the number of times hero Jack Bauer does the right thing by doing the wrong thing. Dave writes that the CTU boss asks for something like, "the names of everybody in California who has ever had a root canal, and immediately one of the random computer-tappers around her goes 'I'm on it' and starts tapping away, and the information pops right up on the screen, and there's never any computer problem, and they never have to install Windows XP Service Pack 2. Well, it gets on our nerves." |
