To Sign With Labels or Not to Sign
Two significant developments in online streaming services: 1 - Online ‘mixtape’ site Muxtape has temporarily closed its virtual doors whilst it ‘sorts out a problem with the RIAA’. 2 – And on the other side of the fence, MusicMakesFriend (essentially Europe’s imeem) struck a deal with Warner Music adding its...( more )

Judge Does an Italian Job on Pirate Bay

P2P Licensing Maybe Not So Close
PLayLouder’s CEO Paul Hitchman says it’s ‘pure speculation’ that they’re close to signing up with an ISP. I indicated yesterday that if the story was accurate it indicated a very significant change in tact from labels. It appears that they’re not quite that worried yet. But this doesn’t mean PlayLouder...( more )

On Our Way Towards a P-to-P Blanket License?
PlayLouder are reportedly close to signing up a major UK ISP (Virgin Media?) to a legitimized-file-sharing service. Songwriting Royalties Up in the UK
Latest half-year numbers from MCPS-PRS reveal that songwriter royalties in the UK earned from CD sales dropped by 15 percent but were compensated for by rises in other licensing streams, including public performance, live and online. iPhone Achilles Heal - Mobile Internet is Not Always-On
Mobile Internet and Mobile Broadband is not an always-on experience and this isn't going to change soon.
